The Cattaraugus County Department of the Aging’s Retired and Senior Volunteer Program is experiencing a critical need for Meals on Wheels volunteer drivers to home deliver nutritious meals to the frail, elderly, disabled homebound who need to remain safe and secure in their homes.
Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the RSVP program has lost many volunteers who are opting to remain at home and maintain social distancing. Needed are four volunteers for the Randolph area; four for the Allegany area; five for the Gowanda area; seven for the Olean area; four in Salamanca, and two in West Valley.
If the program is unable to find more volunteers, it may be forced to decrease the number of days per week it can send out Meals on Wheels.
Under normal circumstances, mileage reimbursement would be provided only to volunteers 55 or older; for the duration of the pandemic, however, mileage reimbursement will be available for any driver.
Interested persons should call RSVP Director Ellen Herner at 716-701-3215 for more information.
