CEDAR GROVE, NJ - A Pompton Lakes man was arrested after trying to pick up anabolic steroids that were shipped to the UPS store on Pompton Avenue in Cedar Grove.
Robert Dakake, 46, was arrested by Cedar Grove police on Wednesday when he tried to pick up the steroids from the store. He was charged with possession and possession with intent to distribute a Class III controlled dangerous substance.
Cedar Grove Police seized 1.145 kg (2.5 lbs.) of anabolic steroids, a schedule III controlled dangerous substance unlawful to possess without prescription. A substance typically used by bodybuilders and athletes to improve physical performance according to police reports.
The incident began with information provided by Federal Customs Authorities. It was reported that the illegal substances was to be delivered to a local UPS Store. The case was turned over to Cedar Grove which set up surveillance leading to the arrest.
The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office authorized the charges. Dakake was processed then transported to Essex County Jail to await a bail hearing. The Lead Investigator was Det. John Smigelsky.
