CEDAR GROVE, NJ - A car theft, a car break-in and a car chase all occurred in the Park Ridge Estates neighborhood of Cedar Grove in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Cedar Grove police first responded to a residence on Jennie Court at around 1 a.m. on a report of a stolen car. According to police reports, officers canvassed the area and located the vehicle parked on another street in the neighborhood. The victim reports that $1,500 in designer pocketbooks and $600 in cash were stolen from the vehicle.
Officers returned to the neighborhood around 4:30 a.m., responding to a report of a burglary and theft from a vehicle on Eileen Drive. According to police the vehicle had been left unlocked. Gift cards, jewelry, and cash were taken from the vehicle--the total value of property taken was in excess of $10,000.
Shortly after, at round 4:45 a.m., police pursued two vehicles traveling South on Pompton Avenue at a high rate of speed. The officers terminated the pursuit at the intersection of Bloomfield Avenue and a description of the involved vehicles was broadcast. East Orange Police stopped one of the vehicles, which was operated by a Cedar Grove resident who had observed two suspicious persons in the Park Ridge Estates neighborhood and pursued them in his personal vehicle. The vehicle he pursued was able to get away.
The resident received a careless driving summon for his actions while pursuing the other vehicle. The rest of the incidents are currently under investigation.
