FAIR LAWN, NJ - Have you filled out your Census? According to statistics, 79.2% of us in Fair Lawn have as of July 30.
"This determines a lot of things," Columbia Heights resident Jim Funcheon said. "Businesses look at it to determine whether they'll put a food store or another type of store that an area needs."
Funcheon filled out his Census a while ago. "I think this is my second or third one I've filled out," he said. "It was easy, took me about five minutes."
"It really can determine whether they build other critical services, too," he said. "Schools, infrastructure like roads, the Census is how they determine where funding for this type of stuff goes."
Emil Delucia, another Columbia Heights resident, agrees.
"This is how the town gets vital services," Delucia said. "People want to live here, but you have to remember, unless you're counted, you're not going to get all the services and stores you need near you."
If you have not filled out your Census, there's a good chance you'll be getting a knock at your door.
On August 11, Census takers will begin knocking on the doors of Fair Lawn residents who have not yet answered the census, according to a borough email.
"While we ask that you open your door to the Census takers, it would be preferable if you can answer to the Census prior to August 11," borough officials said.
