PATERSON, NJ – The holiday hustle-and-bustle that packed other New Jersey malls with shoppers didn’t quite transform Paterson’s Center City Mall into a mob scene this December, according to a story on Huffington Post.
Center City still has about a quarter of its space vacant and it struggles with the economic challenges that afflict the city around it, the story said. For example, the busiest shopping days at the mall tend to come at the beginning of the month, after folks get their public assistance checks, the story said.
Still, the Valiotis family, which made a $130 million investment on the mall, remains committed to Paterson and Center City, the story said. In some ways, the mall is becoming more of a community activity center than a retail hub, the story said.
