WESTFIELD, NJ - On June 22 at 2 p.m. there will be a special installation ceremony for the Westfield Vietnam Memorial at Memorial Park.

"The memorial honors the 11 fellows who died from Westfield and all those who served," said Keith Gibbons, chairman of the 501C Westfield Veterans Fund. "The inscription reflects that."

The keynote speaker for the ceremony will be Peter Braun, a West Point graduate as well as a graduate of Westfield High School class of 1961. Five of the 11 inscribed names were also graduates of that same WHS class.

Following the ceremony there will be a reception, also open to the public, at the Martin Wallberg American Legion Post #3 at 1003 North Ave. Westfield, NJ.

Plans to erect the Vietnam Memorial began three years ago by the Eagle Scouts. As the project grew, the Veterans Fund took over. The fund also helps veterans that are in need of assistance in the community. Both monetary and physical donations were made to accomplish the building of the memorial, with very significant help from local Westfield contractors.

"It was built for those who served from Westfield, by the citizens of Westfield," said Gibbons.
