CHESTNUT HILL, PA. - The Chatham Cougar Elite 7th Grade boys lacrosse team won its final five games, including a 6-4 victory over the Turnpike Elite to win the championship of the Philly Showdown held over two days in Chestnut Hill Stadium.
Attackmen Josh Smith and Grant Webster led the way in the title game. Chatham received strong play in the midfield from Stephen Stromberg, Zach Hoban, Ryan Lonergan and Aedan Joel.
Also contributing for Chatham were Kevin Gilfillan and workhorse midfielders Jack DeLetto (faceoff specialist), James Ehler, Shane Carlin, Colin Schroeder, Matt Keane and Jack Gallagher.
The Cougars played six games over two days at the Springside Chestnut Hill Academy fields. After dropping their first game in a close match, the Cougar Elite went on a roll, winning 5 straight games.
In the semifinals, Chatham goalie Jack Coffey posted a shutout in a 9-0 victory over the New Jersey Lacrosse Club. Coffey was protected by defensemen Ryan Doherty, Luke Agnew, Colin Pierce, Zach Krieger and long stick midfielder Alex Williams. Attackman Mason Agostinelli netted four goals to lead the offense..
The 7th Grade Cougar Elite finished 10-4-1 and was coached by Andrew Goldberg, the freshman coach at Chatham High, and Chatham High All-State midfielder David Gill.
