Chatham Borough Police Investigate Car Crashes, Pedestrian Accident

On February 9 at 4:47 PM, Patrolman Roy George investigated a 2-car crash on Van Doren Avenue. A 1997 Honda driven by Lee Chaslow age 47 of Chatham, was attempting to turn left into the Middle School driveway when his car was struck by a car attempting to pass on the left. The second vehicle was a 2007 Chevrolet driven by David Williams age 27 of Florham Park. Williams stated that the other car pulled to the right before abruptly turning left. The Chaslow vehicle was towed from the scene and Williams was issued a summons for Failure to Keep Right.

On February 8 at 12:49 PM, Patrolman Roy George investigated a single car accident on River Road near Stanley Park. A 2009 Toyota driven by Lorraine Lake age 54 of Berkeley Heights, was travelling south on River Road when she lost control of the car due to icy road conditions. The car spun around and went off the road coming to rest on its roof. There were no injuries, no summonses were issued, and the car was towed from the scene.

On February 8 at 12:13 PM, Patrolman Roy George investigated a 2-car crash on Main Street at Summit Avenue. A 2008 Ford driven by Lisa Barrette age 39 of Chatham, was attempting to enter the flow of traffic on Main Street when she was struck by a car travelling east. The second car was a 2005 Dodge driven by Robert Ruggiero age 54 of Cedar Grove. There were no injuries and Barrette was issued a summons for Careless Driving.

On February 4 at 3:16 PM, Patrolman Brian Maher investigated a 2-car crash on Main Street at South Passaic Avenue. A 2009 Honda driven by Ann Urci-Rispoli age 48 of Livingston, was attempting to go straight across Main Street on to North Passaic when she was sideswiped by a car on her left. The second car was a 2010 Mazda driven by Lauren Rubino age 27 of Roseland. Rubino was attempting to turn right on to Main Street and did not realize there were two lanes of travel. There were no injuries and Rubino was issued a summons for Careless Driving.

On February 2 at 12:28 PM, Patrolman Brian Maher investigated a three-car accident on Main Street near Dunbar. A 2004 Chrysler driven by a 17-year-old boy from Chatham drove into the rear of the car in front of him that was stopped in traffic. That car in turn was pushed into a third vehicle. The second vehicle was driven by Bruce Stachenfeld age 54 of Chatham. The third vehicle left the scene before the arrival of police. The 17 year old was issued a summons for Careless Driving.

On February 1 at 1:41 PM, Patrolman Roy George investigated a pedestrian accident on Main Street at Fairmount Avenue. The pedestrian, Beatriz Valeiro age 45 of Harrison, was crossing Main Street in the crosswalk with a green light when she was stuck by a van turning onto Main Street from Fairmount. The van was driven by Leon Tomaszkowicz age 64 of Butler. Valeiro was transported to Morristown Medical Center by the Chatham Emergency Squad for treatment of a minor arm injury. Tomaszkowicz was issued a summons for Failure to Yield to a Pedestrian.
