CHATHAM, NJ - On February 19, 2019, Officers responded to St. Patrick’s School to investigate the discovery of a suspicious package. The children were sheltered in place and upon the arrival of the police, evacuated to an alternate location.

The package, a factory sealed box containing firearm ammunition, was among a pallet of school traffic safety equipment delivered on Friday. Members of the Morris County Sheriff’s Office assisted Chatham Borough Police with a precautionary sweep, confirming the school grounds were safe.

The Chatham Borough Detective Bureau was able to confirm that the ammunition was mistakenly delivered to the St. Patrick’s School.

The school notified parents and guardians of the evacuation. The Chatham Borough Detective Bureau is continuing to investigate the nature of the delivery.
