Chatham Boys and Girls Swim Teams Advance to North 2, Public B Final Against Summit

Chatham swimmers Regan Kology and Shana McLaughlin lead the way in sectional semifinals against New Providence

WARREN, NJ - The Chatham girls and boys swimming teams each defeated New Providence, setting up a sectional championship matchup with Summit for both teams on Friday, Feb. 14 at the Raritan Bay YMCA in Perth Amboy.

The Chatham girls, the defending Public B state champion, defeated New Providence, 111-59, and the boys also topped New Providence, 114-56, in sectional semifinal action held Tuesday at the Morris-Union Jointure Pool.

Regan Kology, Shana McLaughlin, Jess Gorham and Alicia Izuka, highlighted the victory for the girls. Kology won the 200 freestyle in 1:55.98 and the 500 free in 5:04.7 while McLaughlin placed first in the 100 free in 54.69 and also won the 200 individual medley in 2:12.2.

Gorham won the 50-yard freestyle in 25.41 and Izuka touched first in the 100 breaststroke in 1:07.96.

For the boys, the Cougars received strong performances from Drew Buchser and Trey Blaskey to earn a matchup with Summit, which defeated Chatham in the 2009 sectional final.

Buchser won the 200 individual medley in 2:06.57 and the 100 butterfly in 58.28. Blaskey won the 50-yard freestyle in 22.8 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:07.07.
