Chatham Boys Golf Wins State Sectional Championship, Tops Ramsey

ROCKLEIGH, NJ -  Pat Byrnes shot a 75 and Matt Gentile carded a 76, leading Chatham to a team score of 313, good enough to win the NJSIAA North Jersey, Group 2 Sectional Championship on Monday at the Rockleigh Golf Course.

Coach Todd Ervin's team received a 78 from Alex Chin and an 84 from Sam Miele to round out the top four as Chatham edged Ramsey, which finished with a team total of 314, by one stroke. Mark Kellstrom had a 94 for the Cougars.

Byrnes finished fifth individually. Dan O'Rourke of Delaware Valley was the sectional medal winner with a 70.

"We hadn't qualified in a couple of years for the Tournament of Champions, so I spoke to the kids about the legacy of Chatham golf at these events and they added their legacy to it," Ervin said.
