CHATHAM, NJ - Four-year-old Asher Kober's ebullient reaction to the visit by Santa Claus at Reasoner Park provided a great barometer of the good feeling that was created by the annual Tree Lighting festivities on Saturday evening.

Kober was bouncing with joy after he got to tell Santa that he wanted a Robot Puffer toy for Christmas.

"This is our first year in Chatham," Farra Kober, Asher's mom, said. "This is a wonderful way to celebrate the season."

Children swarmed the restored Stanley Church train, which was moved to Reasoner Park last month (thanks to the refurbishing work by Jeff Davis) and it served as a vantage point for viewers of the performances by the Third Grade Chorus and Dance Innovations.

The event was sponsored by Turpin Realtors and Chatham PBA Local 226. Ready to Paint set up a table where children could paint ornaments and take them home; the Chatham Historical Society provided hot chocolate, the Rotary Club of Chatham served up hot cider, and the police handed out glow sticks and candy canes.
