CHATHAM, NJ - Last October, Chatham Township Police Officers Anthony Loporto and Matthew Smedberg responded to a township home for a welfare check after the resident, a participant in the “Operation Reassurance” program, failed to call in to the police department by 10 a.m.

When the officers arrived at the home with key already in hand, they found resident Betsy Boles semi-conscious and in immediate need of medical care. The Chatham Emergency Squad transported the resident to Morristown Medical Center, where she remained for the next 31 days.

After a brief stay at a local rehabilitation center, she is now fully recovered.

Boles stopped by the police department on Jan. 14 to thank officers Loporto, Smedberg, Chief Steven Hennelly and the “Operation Reassurance” program for helping to save her life.
