Project Title: Art Therapy for Senior Citizens

Our newsletter delivers the local news that you can trust.

The subject of Julianna’s Gold Award was art therapy and its incredible advantages for senior citizens. She set up classes at a local nursing home, the Garden Terrace, where she taught watercolor painting with volunteers from her high school. The seniors were extremely glad to have the students and both the painters and the volunteers created bonds that were incredibly meaningful.

To expand her project, she set up The Senior Outreach Program at her school where student volunteers will go to the Garden Terrace each month to continue interacting with the residents. This program will continue at her school well into the future and she is so happy to be able to provide both the senior citizens and the high school students with a creative outlet to express themselves and make significant connections.
