Chatham Senior Center Selling Shop for a Cause Passes

Grace Wamsteker and Bea Makara, coordinators of the Nifty Knitters, show off a hand-knitted baby blanket and hat.  Senior Services is selling $5.00 Macy's Shop for a Cause Passes with proceeds going to rent a bus for the knitters to visit Lion Brand Yarn store.

The Nifty Knitters is a 30 member charity knitting group that meets weekly at Senior Services of the Chathams. This group knits baby and chemo hats for local hospitals and lap rugs for veterans at Lyons VA Hospital.  Each year they produce 1,000 to 1,200 handmade items that are donated to needy individuals.

“We are honoring our knitters by selling the Shop for a Cause passes,” Pam Mansfield, Executive Director of Senior Services of the Chathams, said.  “The first 100 coupons we sell will be used to rent a bus to take the knitters to the Lion Brand yarn store in Carlstadt, NJ  for lunch and a tour.”

According to Mansfield earlier this year, Lion Brand Yarn donated a box of its yarn to the knitting group and invited the group to come tour its store.
