Chatham Sets Record for Season Wins in Wrestling

CHATHAM, NJ - Chatham defeated Morris Catholic, Marlboro and Bernards in a quad meet and set a record for victories in a season in the process on Saturday.

Chatham (12-11), under the direction of coach Brian Cassera,  broke the mark of 10 victories set in 2008 when it defeated Marlboro, 41-36, in its second match. Then it defeated Bernards, 48-30. In its opening match, Chatham rolled over Morris Catholic, 62-12.

In the Marlboro match, Dylan Mulcahy pinned his opponent in 4:42 at 152 pounds. Tim Rohe then bumped up two weight classes to 160 and scored a pin in 1:39 for Chatham before Mike Kellstrom pinned his opponent at 285 in 5:28. Joel then clinched it with his decision.

"I just Knew the score was tight going into the match," Joel said. "I knew I had to wrestle hard. Once I got the lead, I just had to keep it."

In Bernards match, Mulcahy pinned his opponent at 160 in 1:31 before Alex Wilson rallied to pin his opponent at 182 in 5:44. Taylor Boehmer followed with a pin at 220 for Chatham. Kellstrom then turned in his second straight pin at 285 before Danny Hyland won with a fall in 1:11 at 113 pounds.

Against Morris Catholic, Brian Weber won a 9-6 decision and Steve Bondurich came through with a pin in 2:48.
