Chatham Tops Westfield to Earn Spot in State Ripken Baseball Tournament

Chatham's 11-year-old baseball team is headed to the state Ripken Tournament

Jack Fitzgerald delivered a key base hit during a three-run rally and then closed out the game on the mound Sunday when Chatham's 11-year-old baseball team defeated Westfield, 3-1, to gain a spot in the New Jersey State Ripken Tournament.

Chatham will play Cranford, 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 1, in Springfield in the District Final. The State Tournament starts on July 9 in Bayonne.

Westfield had the tying run on first base when Chatham center fielder, Jack Casano-Boris, fielded a base hit and threw to second base for the force that ended the game.

Tommy Lamar pitched the first five innings for Chatham, allowing one hit before Fitzgerald pitched the final inning.

Chatham scored three runs in the third with hits from Cole Ekert, Dennis Moynihan, Nolan Costello. and Fitzgerald.

The Chatham team includes: Henry White, Brandon Lupi, Luke Zurlo, John Kowalczyk, Sean Pellegrin, and Sean Keenan. The Coaching staff includes Stephen Costello, Jim White, Jeff Fitzgerald, and Paul Zurlo.
