CHATHAM, NJ - A Chatham Township homeowner received notification of 29 violations on Monday for clearing an excessive amount of trees from their property, located at the corner of Mountainview Road and Fairmount Avenue, according to Chatham Township Administrator Robert Hoffmann.

Hoffmann noted that action was taken by the township on May 9, May 10 and May 13 when it was discovered that trees were illegally removed from the property.

"There is no builder involved," Hoffmann said in an email response to an inquiry. "There is a language issue. English is the second language of the new property owner."

In April of 2018, the Chatham Township Committee unanimously adopted a tree ordinance to prevent wholesale clearing of trees during the construction of new homes.
