Chimney Rock Road Traffic Shifting

August 22, 2014 at 3:00 PM

BRIDGEWATER, NJ - As of Monday, traffic on Chimney Rock Road North and South will be shifted to the east in the vicinity of the recently reconstructed and widened portion of the Chimney Rock Road bridge over Route 287, according to a release from the county.

This shiting is toward just north of the Chimney Rock/Union Avenue intersection. According to the release, this shift will last for several months during reconstruction of the western half of the bridge superstructure.

In addition, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday only the Chimney Rock Road Northbound lane heading toward Route 22 East will be completely closed. There will be detour signs posted, and Bridgewater police will assist with traffic control, as well as maintaining Chimney Rock Road Southbound traffic.

This lane will be closed, the release said, because of project-related underground utility work.

For about six to eight weeks, Route 22 Eastbound traffic turning right onto Chimney Rock Road Southbound will continue to use a temporary exit-only right turn lane. Construction, the release said, is being performed for the proposed Route 22 Eastbound express and local roadways, roadway/bridge widening along Chimney Rock Road between Route 22 Eastbound and Union Avenue and more overhead and underground utility relocations.

According to the release, all businesses along Chimney Rock Road and Route 22 Eastbound are fully accessible during construction.
