SOUTH RIVER, NJ - Chris Moran had two goals and two assists in the Spotswood High School boys varsity soccer team's 5-3 victory over South River High School on Tuesday. The annual fall game under the lights at Veterans Park is always a huge draw for students from the rival high schools. Many SHS students wore black in honor of Spotswood High School English teacher John Chaya. Students and staff found out about Chaya's sudden passing during the school day yesterday.

Liam Barlow, Jordan Church and Luke Tharney also netted goals for Spotswood in the victory. Yanni Hatzistefanis had two assists for the Chargers Chris DeLuca had one. Jose Fugon scored two goals for the Rams. Goncalo Pauseiro scored the other goal for Spotswood while Ryan Sampaio had two assists and Alex Rei had one. Kevin Verissimo made 11 saves for South River and Andrew Bishara made 11 saves for Spotswood who had a 3-1 lead at the halftime break.

The team's win over the Rams pulled their overall record back to .500. Spotswood is 6-6-2 overall and 6-2-1 in division play. The Chargers will take on Arthur L. Johnson High School on Thursday at 4 p.m. at the Spotswood High School Varsity Soccer Field.
