SPOTSWOOD, NJ - Soccer Saturday ended on a high note with the Spotswood High School boys varsity soccer team winning their third straight game over John F. Kennedy High School, 2-1. Chris Moran netted both Spotswood goals, giving the junior five goals in the last two games. Moran scored a hat trick in Friday's win over Carteret.
The Mustangs took an early 1-0 lead in the first half on an own goal by Spotswood. It was the second own goal this season for the Chargers. Moran tied the score right before the halftime whistle on a feed from sophomore Liam Barlow. Barlow would set up Moran's second goal and the ultimate game-winner early in the second half as well. Barlow has one goal and four assists while Moran has seven goals in Spotswood's first four games this season. Andrew Bishara made seven saves for the Chargers in the victory while Alex Obertan stopped six Spotswood shots for the Mustangs.
This afternoon's win improved Spotswood's overall record to 3-1. The Chargers are 3-0 in conference play and are currently second in the Greater Middlesex Conference Blue Division behind Metuchen High School. Spotswood won the GMC Blue Division title for the first time in a decade in 2016.
Spotswood will look to extend their win streak on Monday when they travel to South Plainfield High School f or a 4 p.m. game against the Tigers.
