CRANFORD - Congratulations to this week's Cranford High School Athlete of the Week, Dean Smith.
Smith is a senior captain on the varsity wrestling team who captured the District 14 Championship at the 132 lb weight class this past weekend. He has amassed a 22-7 record this season and advances to wrestle in the upcoming Regions.
"Last year, I couldn't even compete in Districts," said Smith. "I was really sick, so this year I was really motivated coming into it."
Back healthy and one step away from competing in Atlantic City, Smith said this was one of his goals before the season started.
"I wanted to win Districts and place top-4 in Regions," mentioned Smith. "I'll have one of the toughest, if not the toughest bracket (at Regions). I'll just have to knock someone off and pull off an upset."
Cranford placed second at Districts with 201 team points. Rival Westfield took first with 231.5 points.
