Citizens' Reports Lead to 2 Arrests in South Orange

SOUTH ORANGE, NJ – A village resident has been arrested after a witness reported to police he observed the man trying to break into vehicles in a parking lot on Irvington Avenue.

Lonnie Askew, 41, was arrested at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 8. He was spotted by police a short distance from the parking lot and identified by the witness.

Askew has been charged with criminal attempt.

On Feb. 11, police arrested a 17-year-old Orange resident after a Vose Avenue resident reported that that someone was walking around to the rear of his neighbor’s house.

Officers apprehended the suspect and discovered that the youth had burglary tools and was trespassing on private property. He was charged with criminal trespass.
