City Green is accepting grant applications for the Passaic County Dig-In! program which provides local community members with the necessary tools and funding for community garden projects. In addition to the traditional community vegetable garden grants, City Green will award grants for existing community gardens as well as for pollinator/habitat gardens.

The Dig In! program is funded by the Passaic County Board of Chosen Freeholders and implemented by City Green, an Urban Farming and Environmental Education non-profit organization. The goal of Dig In! is to expand the number of community gardens in Passaic County by reaching out to members of the community to build gardens for the people of their own neighborhoods. To date, City Green has 71 partners who have constructed community gardens with Dig In! funding and support. Successful applicants who build their own gardens support City Green’s mission of increasing access to healthy food and green, open spaces in the neighborhoods of northern New Jersey.

The Dig In! program has long offered grants to create neighborhood farms, community gardens, and beautiful open spaces in New Jersey communities. This project seeks to engage municipalities, community organizations, schools, garden clubs, and individuals to make change in their local communities through greening and beautification projects. These projects promote the use of public plant and garden installations to inspire pride in communities, support local wildlife, and change the public experience of community life. City Green partners with community groups and municipalities to develop vibrant, natural habitats and gardens throughout Passaic County.
