SUMMIT, NJ - Honoring those who have lost their lives in the line of duty, the City of Summit Fire Department (SFD) is participating in two National Fallen Firefighter events.

The SFD's Memorial Bell will be aglow in red to honor fallen firefighters through October 4 as part of 'Light The Night' and, on at 10 a.m. that day, the department will participate in 'Bells Across America', a national moment of remembrance to honor firefighters who died in the line of duty in 2019. From coast to coast, bells will ring from to start the memorial observance.

“The Summit Fire Department is proud to join communities across the nation in paying tribute to fallen firefighters,” said Summit Fire Chief Eric Evers. “We are thankful for the religious and spiritual leaders in our community that will participate in a moment of remembrance to honor our brothers and sisters who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty in 2019.”

A brief ceremony will be held outside Summit Fire Department headquarters following the bell ringing on October 4.
