NEW BRUNSWICK - It is called the Hub City because New Brunswick is home to the county government, two hospitals, three theaters and many other clubs, all of which brings an ever increasing number of people in cars.
Now to ease the trips, the city partnering with a private company to follow the trend in other urban areas and provide drivers an app to reserve a parking space in a parking deck.
New Brunswick entered an agreement ParkMobile to provide access to 700 spaces in the seven parking decks in the downtown.
“We want to make the visit to New Brunswick to be more comfortable,” said Mitch Karon, executive director of the city parking authority. “On Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights thee is a very large demand for parking. We want to remove that angst of having to find a parking space,” Karon said.
Under the program, driver can use their mobile devices to book parking by downloading the app for Apple and Android devices, or they can reserve parking on ParkMobile.io.
To start the program, the city has set aside 100 spaces in each of its parking garage for reservation, and drivers can get a space in the Church Street Deck, Gateway Deck, Morris Street Deck, New Street Deck, Paterson Deck, Plum Street Deck and the Wellness Deck.
ParkMobile worked with the city since 2013, providing a service to let motorists pay for on-street parking through their mobile devices.
This new app will expand ParkMoble’s work in New Brunswick.
“Within minutes, users can book reservation parking on the app to guarantee a parking spot while out for dinner, a show or a meeting,” said ParkMobile CEO Jon Ziglar.
ParkMobile currently provide parking reservation services in Hoboken, Ocean City, Fairlawn, Montclair, Trenton, West New York, Lambertville, Englewood, among other municipalities.
