The Bariatric Surgery Center at Clara Maass Medical Center will offer a free community health informational session on Wednesday, March 17, 2010, at 6 p.m. in the Belleville Founders Room at Clara Maass Medical Center, located at One Clara Maass Drive, Belleville, NJ, to discuss the option of weight-loss surgery. Come and learn what to expect before, during and after surgery, as well as the surgery's risks, benefits and other weight-loss alternatives.

You might be a candidate for weight-loss surgery if:

You have a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 40 or more,

You have a BMI of 35 or more, plus a life-threatening obesity-related health problem such as diabetes, severe sleep apnea or heart disease, or if

Your weight causes physical problems that interfere with family, work or recreational activities.

Bariatric surgeon, Naveen Ballem, MD, as well as a psychologist, nutritionist and post-bariatric surgery patients will be present to answer your questions.
