Clark Recreation Day Camp Kicks Off This Morning

July 7, 2014 at 10:08 AM

CLARK, NJ – Clark Recreation welcomed over 700 campers this morning on the first day of Summer Day Camp.  Easy-to-spot counselors in fluorescent pink shirts organized campers by grade.  Ralph Bernardo, Clark Recreation Director, used a bullhorn to keep traffic moving inside the building. Some parents dropped and ran; others stood by with cameras and had a harder time saying goodbye.

Excited kids couldn't wait to get started on the day's activities and the energy in the gyms was electrifying.  School friends were happy to be reunited for some summertime fun.

This popular day camp runs Monday through Thursday from 9:00 am to noon for six weeks.  Children in Pre-K through 8th grade attend.  Each themed week features sports, arts, crafts, activities, and special events such as a Game Truck visit, a Magician, a rockwall, Human Hamster Balls, and more.  Thursdays are water days with various activities each week such as special slides, fun foam, and a dunk tank.

Traffic is heavy on Westfield Avenue during morning drop off (8:30 – 9:15 a.m.) and pickup (11:45 a.m. to 12:30 pm) and motorists are urged to use caution driving through the area.

Clara's owner passed away and she found herself stuck at the city shelter.  The fate for a 14-year-old girl is not good ...
