MONMOUTH COUNTY AFTER A NEAR 30 YEAR HIATUS

Why: Clean Ocean Action has been working for 34 years to keep our beaches and ocean clean, ensuring that surfers can enter the water with the confidence that it is safe for their enjoyment.
This contest will serve as a way for the surfing community to come together and show support for the ocean that so many call home. All proceeds from the competition will go to COA’s vital water quality programs.
Long Branch, NJ - Bring your beach gear and join the surfing community on Sunday, October 7, 2018 at Seven Presidents Oceanfront Park in Long Branch, NJ, where Clean Ocean Action will host the COA Open Surf Contest. This competition will be comprised of eight divisions that will accommodate all ages and skill levels, from the tiniest groms to some of the best professional surfers in NJ and NY. The response from the surfing community to help protect the ocean has been fantastic. Registration for the contest closed on October 1 but room is currently being made on the waitlist. Spectators are welcome to attend for free to watch some of the best pros on the east coast battle it out while enjoying coffee from Coffee Surf Co.
The day long contest will be followed by a short Beach Sweep and an After-Party presented by 2nd Jetty Seafood in north Sea Bright where the award ceremony will take place.
Admission to the After-Party will cost $30 at the door for all non-contestants, while supplies last, and includes free beer, wine & Tito’s vodka, live music with Anthony Lee Loops Trio and Friends, plus a five-star local food spread from Lusty Lobster, GiGi’s Pizza, Anjelica’s, Tommy’s Tavern+Tap, and Woody’s Ocean Grille!
COA is grateful to the remarkable community-wide collaboration that made the event possible beginning with the outstanding committee who brought it all together: Danny Ciambrone, Mike Gleason, Kyle Hofensberger, Luke McCann, Jack Murphy, Nick Spadavecchia, Scott Thompson and Tyler Thompson (the father and son team that started the COA Open in 1987).
