SOUTH ORANGE, NJ - To kick spring cleaning into high gear, South Orange Village’s Irvington Avenue Corridor Advisory Committee (IACAC) is organizing a cleaning and beautification event for the Irvington Avenue area on Sunday, May 18, 2014 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. This first public event organized by the just-formed IACAC will bring area residents together to:
- Clean up trash with Clean Sweep South Orange
- Prune plants around the neighborhood
- Plant new flowers and shrubs around the neighborhood
- Enjoy live music and food donated by local merchants
"All ages are welcome to this first event aimed at beautifying Irvington Avenue and getting it ready for a spectacular summer,” said Doug Zacker, chairperson of the IACAC. “With local merchants providing delicious food and local residents providing the muscle power and gardening tools, it’s a wonderful opportunity for everyone to work together to make our neighborhood a little more special.”
The exciting day will kick off at 10 a.m. at the park next to the Lot 8 parking area on Irvington and West Fairview Avenues.
There will be food provided by popular Irvington Ave restaurants, including Blue Plate Special, Lalibela, Munchie’s and Inkosi. Additional sponsorship is provided by local businesses Two Great Kids, Stan’s Service Center, and Project Sign. Volunteers of all ages are welcome and are encouraged to bring gloves and small gardening tools if they have them.
The IACAC was established earlier this year by the South Orange Board of Trustees. The mission of the IACAC is to create a thriving Irvington Ave, which attracts patrons, residents and the Seton Hall community with diverse shops and restaurants; and a safe, attractive and vibrant neighborhood.
