UPDATED 10:28 a.m. Friday
Clinton Road is now reopened

WEST CALDWELL, NJ - Thursday afternoon, West Caldwell Police closed Clinton Road from Passaic Avenue to Roosevelt Street due to downed power wires, some of which were sparking. Power was out to the general area from 5:45 p.m. until 7:50 p.m. The road was reopened at 8 p.m. but police again closed the road from Sanford Avenue to Passaic Avenue for PSE&G to perform line work. By morning, the road was again reopened.

The area in front of the West Caldwell Post Office had wires come down which affected the rest of the wires and the power along the entire road.

Most of Clinton Road lost power due to this incident. The Essex Mall was without power, except for Stop and Shop which appeared to be running on a generator. Chief of Police Michael J. Bramhall reported to West Essex TAP that PSE&G was contacted by his office immediately and have been working diligently since they arrived at the scene at approximately 6:30 p.m
