WACO, Texas The Sweet Briar College equestrian team was chosen as this the 2018 NCEA Team Sportsmanship award winner.

The annual award is a coveted honor that reflects on the outstanding nature of collegiate equestrian athletes and their respective programs.

The 2018 NCEA Team Sportsmanship trophy was presented to the Sweet Briar College equestrian team for humility in victory and defeat, and for outstanding character displayed by the student-athletes and coaching staff. The student-athletes had strong performances throughout their first NCEA season, qualifying for the NCEA National Championship in both Equitation Over Fences and Equitation on the Flat.

“I am very honored for our team," Sweet Briar College Equestrian Director and Coach Mimi Wroten said. "This organization (NCEA) is a fabulous group of teams and coaches and I am surprised and humbled to have our team selected for the sportsmanship award.”

The NCEA Team Sportsmanship trophy was donated by the Anthony Family and Potcreek Meadow Farm.  Delaware State won the NCEA Team Sportsmanship award in 2017.

Earlier in the season, Courtney Barry of Aspers, Pa. helped Sweet Briar College earn their  first NCEA win with an 8-2 win against Minnesota-Crookston.
