SOUTH ORANGE/MAPLEWOOD, NJ -- The Columbia boys basketball program will be moving up a division for the 2019-2020 season.
Each year, the Super Essex Conference realigns its divisions based on competitive balance. Columbia's boys hoops team, which spent the season just concluded in the Liberty Division, will be elevated to the American Division--considered the most competitive--next season.
Columbia had a 12-10 record this winter, competing in a division with Montclair, Barringer, Bloomfield, East Orange, Orange and Millburn. Next season, in the American Division, the Cougars will be contending with East Side, West Side, Seton Hall Prep, Montclair and Payne Tech.
The Columbia girls basketball program will remain in the Liberty Division next year, as it was this year. But that division will have a different look next year, when the Lady Cougars will be competing against West Essex, Verona, Glen Ridge, Newark Academy, Nutley and Payne Tech.
