Columbia High School to Present the Musical "CATS"

MAPLEWOOD, NJ - Columbia High School will be presenting Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “CATS” as its All-School Musical on March 14, 15, 21 and 22 at 7:30 p.m. as well as matinee performances on March 16 and 23 at 2 p.m. 

“CATS” is a musical is based on T.S. Elliot's "Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats.”  Each musical number tells the story of a different cat, with many lyrics taken verbatim from T.S. Elliot’s poems.  The music was composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber and became quite popular in the long-running Broadway show.

Appearing in the musical are Aanu Fawole (Old Deuteronomy), Michael Hoey (Mr. Mistoffolees), Isaiah Thomas (Rum Tum Tugger) and Emma Leone (Grizabella).  CHS alumnus Gregory Osborne has a featured role of Macavity.

Heading up the production team are Tricia Benn and Bethany Pettigrew, the directors/choreographers each of whom appeared in CATSon national tour and Broadway.  CHS music teachers Jamie Bunce and Peter Bauer are the vocal and instrumental music directors respectively.

The set is being provided by Gateway Playhouse in Bellmore, NY, with additional set design and construction by Mark Halliday and Jon Zaccone.  Additional set painting by Dr. Janet Bustrin and costumes by Carol Rutledge and Barbara Canace.  Technical direction is by Tara Abbondante.  Assistant Principal Michael Healy serves as the producer.

The show will be presented in the high school’s auditorium at 17 Parker Avenue, Maplewood. Tickets may be purchased in advance for $10 each (general admission) at the main office at the high school and at following establishments:

General admission tickets will be available on the day of the performance and at the door for $15.

Maplewood Police Blotter - Burglary and Arrest Reported

November 26 - At approximately 8:30 p.m., officers responded to a home on Essex Ave. on a reported burglary.  Five juveniles were located in the area, were identified as the burglars, and were taken into custody.  Two females age 17 from Newark, 15 and 17 year old males from Newark, and a 17 year old male from Irvington were all arrested and charged with the burglary.
