ROXBURY, NJ - The inaugural Roxbury High School gymnastics team wrapped up its regular season on Oct. 12 with a meet against Indian Hills High School where the girls stuck another win in the books beating Indian Hills 99.05 to 89.7.

Tiffany Zieba was the leading point scorer, earning the highest score on every event out of all of the girls that competed. The other key contributors to this success were Ashley Miller, Alexis Merola and Katie Parr, marking her return to competition after an injury.

This win brought our overall team record to 6-2 for the season. The Gaels' next competition is Oct. 23 at 5 p.m. at Wayne Hills High School for the League Championship Meet. Currently, the team is tied for the first seed with Montclair High School.

After that, there are a select few competitions left in the season. "I have the girls who are newer to gymnastics competing in the Novice Meet on Oct. 27 hosted at West Milford High School at 11:30 a.m.," said coach Tara Liska. "This allows them to get more experience competing and will put a nice finish to their season."

Liska said the team's final endeavor will be the sectionals "and hopefully" the States.

"These last two meets are ones you need to qualify for two times per event," she said. "We currently have three girls officially qualified with another who has first-round qualifications and will hopefully get her second round on Tuesday."

The coach said Tiffany Zieba is qualified for sectionals all around (vault, bars, beam and floor), Alexis Merola is qualified on vault and beam and Morgan Valdes is qualified on vault. She said the team is "looking to have a solid meet on Tuesday to get some last minute sectional qualifications as well as the title of League B Champions."

Liska noted the Gaels are in Section North 1 and will be competing against all teams in Passaic, Bergen, Hudson, Sussex, Essex and Morris counties. Sectionals will be on Nov. 3 at 11:30 a.m. at Ridgewood High School. From there, the top five girls on each event advance to States which is held on Nov. 10 at Montgomery High School with a start time of 9:15 a.m..

"Although the regular season is done, there is still lots of exciting things to come for us," said the new coach. "All of the girls have put in a lot hard work to give the season their all and it has definitely paid off! I would also like to thank all of the parents and the Booster Club for all of their support and help this season. They really helped make this year a great one and they even traveled to every meet, no matter how far, to watch the girls compete. We have had a lot of success this season and we are looking forward to ending on a high note at Sectionals/States! Go Gaels!"
