Congregation Beth Israel in Scotch Plains hosted the annual regional "prom" for teenagers who are members of United Synagogue Youth (USY), March 20, 2010. Approximately 220 high school students from central and northern New Jersey attended the dance. The teens also participated in a social action project in the synagogue's library that evening: they provided new and gently used children's books and read them aloud, recording their voices to CDs. The books and accompanying CDs will be donated to local schools through Pamela's Library, a non-profit organization that collects and distributes gently used books.
