Connolly, Flynn Named Summit High School Athletes of The Week

February 26, 2014 at 2:54 PM

SUMMIT, NJ - Winter Track Team member David Connolly and Ice Hockey player Riley Flynn have been named Summit High School Athletes of the Week, presented by The Alternative Press of Summit, for the week ending February 23.

Each week throughout the school year, athletes will be honored for distinguishing themselves in the arena of competition, in the classroom, and for demonstrating exemplary, Hilltopper-caliber sportsmanship and leadership qualities.

Connolly, Captain of the Winter Track Team, is the state sectional champion in the 55 meter dash, and owns the number-one time in the State as of February 25.  In addition, he is the school record holder in the event, and owns the 42nd fastest time in the country.

“David has been the hardest working sprinter over the last two years on the team, and has gone from an average to above-average sprinter in the state, to an elite sprinter nationally.  He is dedicated and passionate about his sport, and is a leader on and off the track.  It is a pleasure to coach such a motivated and hard-working athlete,” said Summit Boys Winter Track Coach Antonio Martins.

Over three games during the week, Flynn had four goals and five assists, and he leads the team in scoring with 48 points.  A Junior, he was chosen as the Union County Tournament MVP, and was also a First Team, All-League selection for the second time.

“Riley is an outstanding all-around player willing to do whatever we need him to do to help the team.  He also has a knack for making big plays in big games,” said Summit Head Coach Keith Nixon.

Any armchair theoretical physicist knows that Stephen Hawking has pursued a lifelong quest to come up with a Theory of Everything.
