WEST ORANGE, NJ - After environmental concerns were raised at the March 5 West Orange Planning Board meeting about the contruction of a dog park in the South Mountain Recreation Complex, the County tabled the proposal pending further research. County engineers will review the plans to determine if a dog park would be feasible.
In addition, after Courtesy Review Application PB-13-26C/County of Essex/South Mountain Recreation Complex, Block: 162; Lot: 2; Zone: R-1, regarding the installation of a nautical-themed playground near the Paddle Boat Pavilion, was reviewed, neither the Planning Board or residents opposed the installation.
Plans are now underway to design the nautical-themed playground featuring age-appropriate apparatus and rock climbing equipment for children ages 2-5 years and 5-12 years. The playground surface will be rubberized and provide a no-cost activity for visitors coming to picnic or ride the paddle boats.
Because the project must still go to bid, there is no current timeline for completion or cost projections. The Alternative Press will provide updates as they become available.
