Cozy Cause

Summit Mayor Nora Radest and Assemblywoman Nancy Muñoz flank Christ Child Society President Margaret Strong at the organization's fifth annual 'Blankets for Babies Day', an event that was attended by more than 150 student and adult volunteers.

'Blankets for Babies' is a day of cutting, pinning and sewing to produce wonderfully cozy fleece baby blankets that are included in layettes, which are then provided to local hospitals to be distributed to newborns in need. This year’s goal is to provide 350 layettes to the free pediatric clinics of the area hospitals, with a blanket in each.

The layettes are packed full with necessary items to get a newborn started in life, and include onesies, pajamas, outfits, hand knit sweaters & hats, receiving blankets, and a handmade fleece blanket. The Blankets for Babies project is made possible by a very generous grant from the Summit Elks Lodge #1246.
