Criminal Charges Made Against Driver of March Head-On Crash

CHATHAM, NJ -  Marcia Salazar-Cerdas, 22, of Chatham Borough, has been charged with Aggravated Assault and Aggravated Assault by Auto in relation to a head-on collision on River Road in March.

On March 2 at 3:15 p.m. officers responded to a serious head-on motor vehicle crash in the 700 block of River Road, resulting in injuries to both drivers and a passenger.

A subsequent investigation conducted by Officer Keith Johnson led to charges being filed against one of the drivers, Salazar-Cerdas, for Driving While Intoxicated, Careless Driving and Failure to Maintain Lane of Travel.

On May 9, 2014, Salazar-Cerdas was arrested on criminal charges stemming from this crash.  Based on the seriousness of the injuries sustained by the other driver, and alcohol being a contributing factor for the crash, Detective Scott Herchick charged Salazar-Cerdas with Aggravated Assault and Aggravated Assault by Auto.

Salazar-Cerdes was released after processing and the case has been transferred to the Morris County Superior Court for disposition.
