The athletes began their journey in March training from the CrossFit 908 facility on Summit Avenue in Berkeley Heights. Approximately 300,000 athletes worldwide register for the CrossFit Open competition that consists of a five week program involving different scheduled workouts. The personal results are recorded and judged. The top athletes from the Open in each of the 17 regions around the world qualify for the Regional CrossFit Games Competition.
At each CrossFit Games, the athletes engage in a series of challenges unknown to them until right before the competition. A key element to a fair test of fitness is the unknown and unknowable according to the CrossFit Games website. Athletes cannot train for what they do not know.
