As you may have heard, I am running for Chatham Township Committee (www.CurtForChatham.com). My interest in running for office is rooted in the fact that I have always taken an active role in volunteering and being involved in my community.
My Leadership & Experience
Over the past several years, I served on the Chatham Township Zoning Board of Adjustment, been a Catechist teaching high school students at Corpus Christi and coached youth soccer. In addition, I have maintained leadership positions within several local organizations, serving on the Board of the Delbarton Alumni Association for more than 10 years, ultimately serving as President, and I currently serve as Communications Chair for the Chatham Education Foundation and as Founder and President of The Chatham Turkey Trot. Taken together, I believe it is a natural progression to take this next step and use my prior experience and expertise to benefit the Chatham Township community and run for Township Committee.
By way of background, I was born and raised in New Jersey and grew up in New Vernon. I am a longtime resident having lived in Chatham for nearly a decade with my wife Jen raising our three children Will (9), Mollie (8) and Grace (6), all of whom attend Southern Boulevard School.
One of the most important roles of any government organization is to communicate with its residents both when things are going well and in times of crisis. I have nearly 20 years of communications experience, which will benefit the Township Committee in its efforts to effectively communicate with Chatham Township residents.
I started my career at Edelman Public Relations, served as First Deputy Press Secretary to Mayor Rudy Giuliani, worked as Chief Spokesperson and Director of Corporate Communications for W. P. Carey (NYSE: WPC) and now serve as Chief Spokesperson and Director of Corporate Communications for CIT Group Inc. (NYSE: CIT). I received an MBA from Columbia Business School and a BA in Broadcasting from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University.
As a member of the Chatham Township Committee I will be committed to:
- Increasing communication and providing transparency on the important issues that impact you and your family;
- Managing spending;
- Promoting common sense regulation;
- Protecting the environment, and,
- Providing cost effective and efficient municipal services to you and your family.
As I embark on this campaign, I hope that you will share with me your thoughts and ideas on what you believe are the key issues that need to be addressed by the Chatham Township Committee. I want to hear from you so that I can represent the needs of each of you, please e-mail me at Curt4Chatham@gmail.com with your thoughts and ideas.
Further, please let me know if you have an interest in the coming months in getting involved with the campaign. Whether it’s posting a yard sign, hosting an event at your house, writing a Letter to the Editor, or just spreading the word by talking to your friends and neighbors, I ask for your support as we work together to “Build a Better Chatham.”
