SPOTSWOOD, NJ - Rutgers-bound senior guard Jake Dadika broke open a close game in the fourth quarter while becoming Spotswood High School's all-time leading scorer, scoring 23 of his game-high 39 points in the second half, as the Chargers ran away from Manchester Township High School with a 78-66 victory at home on Thursday night in the quarterfinals of the NJSIAA Central Jersey, Group 2 semifinals.
Dadika became the all-time leading scorer when he sank the last of his free throws with 12 seconds remaining, giving him 1,634 points. That is one more than previous record holder Charlie Eibeler who set the previous record in 1995.
Every one of Dadika's 39 points were needed, as this was a very close game for three quarters. The Chargers held a one point lead at halftime, and ended the third quarter leading 50-48 before taking control in the fourth quarter.
The torch may also have been passed to the next Spotswood star, as in this game, Freshman Matthew Ciaccio had a triple-double, scoring 16 points, gathering 13 rebounds, and blocking 10 shots. It is clear that he will be the next "go-to" player" in the Chargers roster.
Kashaun Barnes had 29 points in a valiant effort for Manchester in the loss.
Next up for the Chargers will be their toughest matchup, as they pay a visit to top-seeded Matawan High School this Saturday at 1 p.m. in the sectional Group 2 semifinals.
