BERNARDS TWP., NJ _ The deadline to order a "Hometown Heroes" banner to honor a veteran who lives or has lived in Bernards Township has been extended to Sept. 30.
The banners will be flown at the municipal complex at 1 Collyer Lane, or at another location around the township if more space is needed, during November. "They will be up before the (annual) Field of Honor Dedication ceremony, which is Nov. 1 this year, and remain up until after Thanksgiving," Bernards Parks & Recreation Director Jennifer Gander said this week.
A donation of $75 is suggested to cover the cost of production. However, the application printed on the Bernards Township website said that the township will "accept any amount you are able to give." Checks should be made payable to “Bernards Township."
All banners will be displayed; as of Monday, there was room for 15 more banners at the municipal complex.
Applications, photos and documentation must be received by mail or in person by 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 30, according to the township.
By submitting this form, the applicants approve and authorize the use of their image or family member’s image and name on a Hometown Heroes Banner to be displayed in Bernards Township.
