NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ - The New Providence Memorial Library has a full calendar of activities throughout the month of December. 

 Dec 11 @ 4 pm - Introduction to the World of Arduino (Kids Grades 4-8)

An introduction to the exciting programmable circuit board with a software component. Learn the basics of this tool and walk away with your very first project. The project will consist of learning to light up an LED using your computer. Students get the option of keeping the Arduino hardware for an additional $5. A laptop is required for this class with access to the internet.  For students in grades 4-8. Registration is required and space is limited. This program made possible through the Union County Grant for Library Programming.

Dec 11 @ 5:30 PM - Teen STEM: HTML Coding Class (Teens Grades 7-12)

StemNJ will come teach a class for teens in grades 7-12 on HTML Coding and How to Build Your Own Website. Students must bring their own laptops. Registration is required and space is limited. Funded by the Union County Library Grant program.

Dec 10 @ 7 PM - Baseball Club (Adults)

The Baseball Club is meeting on Monday 12/10 at 7PM. Anyone with an interest in baseball is welcome to come and talk about your favorite team, players or just listen.

 Dec 16 @ 3 PM - Jamie Peterson & Friends Holiday Concert (All Ages)

Jamie Peterson and her friends will sing holiday songs. Sponsored by the Friends of the New Providence Memorial Library. Free, everyone is welcome.

Dec 17 @ 3:30 PM - My Gym New Providence (Kids Ages 0-8)

Our My Gym teachers will lead a 30 minute age-appropriate fitness and movement class with your kids. Activities will include basic tumbling, games, relays, puppet shows, bubbles, and more! Our desire is to promote health and fitness awareness within our community in a super fun way!  For infants-8 years. Children must have a signed waiver. Registration is recommended. Register and pick up a waiver at the Children’s desk.

Dec 18 @ 4:00 PM - Art and Stories with Miss Alyson (Kids Grades K-2)

Join Miss Alyson for a special story, literacy activity and craft.  For students in grades K-2. Registration is required.

Dec 19 @ 3 PM - Teen Homework Group (Teens Grades 7-12)

Reserved space in the Coddington room in the library for all teens who need a quiet place to work. Tables, chairs and wifi available. Come with a study group, help out a friend, or just get your own work done. Drop in & out as needed from 3-5 PM. No registration required.

Dec 20 @ 3:30 PM - Teen Movie, Cocoa & Gift Wrapping! (Teens Grades 7-12)

Bring a friend and some gifts to wrap for a fun afternoon of laughter, hot cocoa and gift wrapping. If you don’t have gifts to wrap, just come for the movie & hot cocoa! We’ll watch Daddy’s Home 2, starring Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg. Wrapping materials & cocoa provided by the library. For teens in grades 7-12. To register, email or call 908-665-0311.

Dec. 28 @ 3 PM - Pom Pom Bookmark Craft (Adults & Families)

We will make pom poms out of yarn and attach a long piece of string to make a bookmark.  To register, email or call (908) 665-0311.

 Ongoing all month for Children:  1,000 BOOKS BEFORE KINDERGARTEN

Join the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten initiative!  The objective of this program is to promote reading to newborns, infants and toddlers; as well as, encourage parent and child bonding through reading.  Ongoing all month for ALL AGES: Adults, Teens and Children - Frankenstein Community Read

Celebrate 200 years of Frankenstein by Mary Shelley with the Frankenstein Community Read. Pick up a copy of Frankenstein or Romantic Outlaws at the front desk.
