Decker, Rooney Lead Chatham Cougar Eighth-Graders in Opener at Staten Island

STATEN ISLAND, NY - Ryan Decker threw two touchdown passes and Jack Rooney pulled in a TD catch and made an interception to highlight the Chatham Cougars' Eighth-Grade football opener, a 34-12 setback to two-time defending league champion Staten Island.

Staten Island scored on its first two possesions before Chatham got is offense going behind Decker, who connected with Rooney for a 32-yard touchdown in the first quarter.

Rooney's interception in the second quarter led to Decker's second touchdown pass, a 15-yard reception by Chris Conlin, cutting the deficit to 14-12.
