CHATHAM, NJ - The swearing in of new members Carolyn Dempsey and Jocelyn Mathiasen to the Borough of Chatham Council gave women 50 percent of the seats on Monday night.
Dempsey and Mathiasen were part of the "Blue Wave" that brought Democrats into office in both Chatham Borough and Chatham Township, where Tracy Ness was elected to the Chatham Township Committee.
The two borough council members received a congratulatory letter from freshman Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill, who now represents Chatham in the 11th Congressional District.
Vickie Fife, Mathiasen and Dempsey give women half of the six seats on the Borough of Chatham Council.
Chatham Township resident Kellie Doucette, the district director for Sherrill, came to the meeting to read Sherrill's letter to the two new Chatham Borough Council members (see the video below).
