HAMILTON, NJ -- Despite being issued a subpoena in recent weeks to appear before a Township Council subcommittee overseeing the entityHamilton Township Animal Shelter and Adoption Center Director  Marion Mumford did not appear Wednesday night at the meeting attended by more than three dozen members of the public.

As previously reported by TAPinto Hamilton/Robbinsville, the meeting was convened by the council subcommittee to receive an update on activities undertaken by Mayor Yaede and municipal officials to address concerns raised last year regarding the health and safety at the shelter.

"Tonight was an opportunity for Mayor Yaede to be transparent and to tell the public about changes that have been made at the animal shelter" said Tighe following the meeting.  "The Mayor failed to take that opportunity."

At a recent Council meeting, Councilwoman Ileana Schirmer asked Township Business Administrator Dave Kenny when Mumford could attend a subcommittee meeting,  However, he did not offer alternative dates or times where she could be available for a public meeting.

"I feel sorry for Ms. Mumford if she took the advice from administration officials to not attend tonight's meeting," said Schirmer, adding that there may be "ramifications for her not appearing.  This is not acceptable to be ignoring a subpoena.”

“I am not surprised by them refusing to attend. This administration oozes arrogance.”

There is no current date scheduled for a follow-up meeting, but the council members stated that they will consider next steps to obtain information to the public about the animal shelter's activities.

Calls by TAPinto Hamilton/Robbinsville to Kenny and Mumford on Thursday morning for comment were not returned by time of publication.
