District 27 Assemblyman John McKeon to Chair Judiciary Committee

January 28, 2014 at 1:38 PM

WEST ORANGE, NJ - John F. McKeon, Assemblyman for the 27th Legislative District in New Jersey, has been named chair of the Assembly Judiciary Committee for the 2014-2015 legislative session by Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto. McKeon was also named to serve as vice-chair of the Assembly Environmental Committee.

“As a member of the legal profession and a lawmaker, it is a great honor to be entrusted with the chairmanship of the Assembly Judiciary Committee and to have an enhanced voice in the Legislature's decision-making process on policies that can have an impact on our lives," said McKeon (D-Essex\Morris).

Prieto explained the rationale for appointing McKeon.
“Assemblyman McKeon’s advocacy of policies that are fair and just and in the public interest as well as his legal experience and performance as a member of the Assembly Judiciary Committee, have earned him the respect and admiration of his caucus colleagues and make him an ideal choice to chair the Assembly Judiciary Committee," Prieto (D-Hudson) said.

In addition to serving as chair for the Judiciary Committee, McKeon will also serve as vice chair of the Assembly Environmental and Solid Waste Committee. McKeon has long been committed to protection of the environment.

He will also continue to serve as a member of the Assembly Financial Institutions and Insurance Committee.

Assemblyman McKeon is serving his seventh consecutive term representing several municipalities in Essex and Morris counties including: Caldwell, Chatham Township, East Hanover, Essex Fells, Florham Park, Hanover, Harding, Livingston, Madison, Maplewood, Millburn, Roseland, South Orange and West Orange.

“My mom works here at the Y,” says 9-year-old Leah Rajnarain, looking out from under her cat face-shaped sleeping mask that’s pushed up above her big brown eyes. It’s 4 o’clock in the afternoon and she’s in Kids Central, the Madison Area YMCA’s indoor playground, snuggled up in comfy pajamas because it had been pajama day at Torey J. Sabatini ...
