In honor of Adopt-a-Shelter Dog Month, the Scotch Plains Public Library will be hosting a series of events throughout October.
To kick off the month, the library will host an art gallery reception on Thursday, October 10 at 7 pm. This reception will feature the dog-related exhibits of local artists Vicki Parker and Leeza Hernandez. We will also be leaving one wall open for YOU and other community members to display photographs, art work, and writings about your favorite canines. They do not have to be shelter dogs — we love ‘em all!
If you would like to contribute to the dog-related art exhibit, please bring your framed or foamboard-mounted creation, 5×7 to 8.5 x11 inches to the Reference Desk any time the library is open from September 23 through October 28. Be sure to include this information: Title of work and name of artist (to be seen by all) and your contact information (to be used by library staff only).
Can’t make the reception? The exhibit will be open from October 1 through October 28.
On Saturday, October 12 at 11 am, award winning author/illustrator Leeza Hernandez will return to ScotLib to read and sign copies of her children’s book, Dog Gone! Following her session with children, Leeza will again volunteer her time from 1-3 pm to make needlecraft felt dogs with adults. Reservations are required.
Continuing our celebration of man’s best friend, local artist Vicki Parker has volunteered to return on Wednesday, October 23 to create dog-themed necklaces or magnets with adults and teens in grades 6 & up. This workshop will run from 6-8 pm. Reservations are required.
Scotch Plains Public Library programs are free and open to the public. Those interested in attending the needlecraft felt dog workshop or the dog-themed necklace workshop must register through the library’s website, by phone at 908-322-5007 x204 or via e-mail at email@example.com.
The Scotch Plains Library is located at 1927 Bartle Avenue, one block from Park Avenue in the center of town.
